Child Abuse Prevention Month is just around the corner!

Join us during April, Child Abuse Prevention Month, as we continue building together for all children! Annually, April is declared Child Abuse Prevention Month by Presidential and Gubernatorial proclamation. Prevent Child Abuse Kentucky, along with our Prevent Child Abuse America sister chapters, as well as our 270+ member Partner in Prevention Network, work collaboratively across the nation and our respective states to ensure heightened awareness of child maltreatment and its prevention occurs throughout the month.We hope you join us as we plant seeds of support for all children during April.

New this year: Prevent Child Abuse Kentucky Garden Kits

We are excited to introduce our Garden Kits ahead of Child Abuse Prevention Month!

Included in the kits will be garden flags, PCAK branded garden tools, and other educational materials!

We hope you will be able to get years of great use out of these awesome new products!

New PCAK Resources and CAPM Resource highlights

The Prevent Child Abuse Kentucky staff has been hard at work recently developing resources covering several topics to make available to our partners and supporters across the state.

Child Abuse Prevention Month is getting closer every day!

This year, CAPM starts on the last day of March, with Wear Blue Day on March 31!

We are so excited to see everyone wearing their blue outfits, so to encourage involvement, we will be hosting a social media contest!

PCAK’s 2023 Public Policy Priorities

Prevent Child Abuse Kentucky recently announced our public policy priorities for 2023 at the state and federal levels. You can read through them below.

State

  1. Lead: Prohibiting Corporal Punishment in the schools
  2. Support: Child abuse and neglect education in schools
  3. Support: Addressing agencies have a chain of command for child abuse and neglect reports
  4. Support: Ensure appropriate reporting of child abuse and neglect across reporting agencies when an alleged perpetrator is an employee
  5. Support: Address Statute of Limitations related to sexual assault
  6. Support: Efforts to increase child care, family supports, etc.

Federal

  1. Child Abuse Prevention Treatment Act (CAPTA) increase
  2. Maternal, Infant, and Early Childhood Home Visiting (MIECHV) increase
  3. The Fetal Alcohol Syndrome Disorder (FASD) Respect Act (S. 2238 and H.R. 4151)
  4. HR3788 (VA Child Care Protection Act)
  5. Advocate for strengthening charitable giving incentives by expanding an “above-the-line”/universal deduction of 1/3 of the standard deduction
  6. Protecting our Student in Schools Act of 2020 Ending Corporal Punishment in Schools Act of 2019
  7. Promote PCAK policy statement regarding tech companies “going dark” on technology relating to graphic child images

PCAK’s Top Ten Mission Moments of 2022

As we look back on 2022, we are so proud of many of the things we accomplished. However, our hearts are still heavy as we continue, as a united Commonwealth, to lift our Eastern KY neighbors up with our prayers, donations, and volunteer time. We thank you for your commitment to all of Kentucky’s children, youth, and families.
