As the state’s leading child abuse prevention agency, Prevent Child Abuse Kentucky believes all children deserve to be raised in a safe and healthy environment. This includes the belief children should be able to grow and thrive into adulthood. With firearm injuries being the leading cause of death for children and adolescents in Kentucky, we believe it is within our mission to provide advocacy, awareness, education, and tools regarding this issue. Our approach to addressing firearm safety to reduce injury or death of Kentucky’s youngest citizens will include the following:
- Collect data and research, conduct, and participate in evaluation projects to inform advocacy, awareness, partnerships, and programs.
- Develop and/or distribute educational materials, messaging, and tools to inform the public regarding how to protect children and adolescents from accidental firearm injuries.
- Advocate for policies that promote the safety of Kentucky’s children and youth.
