Child Abuse Prevention Month

Pinwheels of Possibility

RECOGNIZE CHILD ABUSE PREVENTION MONTH

Take action in April to protect Kentucky’s children

Because prevention can’t wait.

Every child deserves the opportunity to grow up safe, supported, and surrounded by possibility. When families have access to the right resources and community support, children can reach their full potential—and prevention becomes possible.

April is Child Abuse Prevention Month (CAPM), a time to come together and take action for children and families across Kentucky. This year’s theme, Pinwheels of Possibility, celebrates the limitless potential of children and the power of prevention to create brighter futures.

Join us this April and beyond as we turn awareness into action, spin possibility into impact, and help ensure every child grows up safe, supported, and loved.

Be a Champion for Children and Families This April

This April, we’re inviting individuals, families, schools, workplaces, and communities to take part in building a safer Kentucky for children—
one action at a time.

CAPM 2025 RECAP

Last April, Kentucky Showed Up

From pinwheel gardens to community events, social media challenges to statewide partnerships, Kentuckians came together to celebrate children, strengthen families, and elevate prevention.

In 2025 We Planted...

Pinwheels
0

Did You Know?

28,000 pinwheels planted = a whole lot of blue.

Here’s what that number really looks like:

Rupp Arena, Nearly Filled.

With 20,800 pinwheels planted, we could place one pinwheel in every single seat at Rupp Arena
and still have 255 pinwheels left over.

That’s enough blue to spill onto the sidelines, because prevention doesn’t stop at the buzzer.

Coverage Across the Commonwealth.

That’s about 173 pinwheels for each of Kentucky’s 120 counties, a visible reminder that protecting kids is a statewide effort.

Prevention Going the Distance.

Lined up end to end, 20,800 pinwheels would stretch about 4.6 miles. That’s more than four full laps around Keeneland Race Track. Now that’s true photo finish for Kentucky’s kids.

2026 Pinwheels Planted

20,800 pinwheels set the bar.

Every pinwheel ordered and planted in 2026 adds another spin of hope and pushes us closer to beating last year’s total.
Schools, businesses, families, and communities across the Commonwealth: this is our moment.

Let’s do this, KY.

Environmental Sustainability

At Prevent Child Abuse Kentucky, we are committed to promoting child abuse prevention in ways that reflect our shared responsibility to children, families, and the environment.

  • Many of our partners already model sustainability by reusing and recycling pinwheels year after year.

  • As we look ahead, we are exploring creative, environmentally responsible ways to raise awareness while maintaining the visibility and impact of the pinwheel symbol.
  • We invite our partners and supporters to help shape the future of this campaign by sharing ideas for sustainable pinwheel use and innovative alternatives to physical materials.
